Project Description

Greenhouse ventilation is an important consideration if you want to optimise your harvest.

For example, there are plants that do very well during the summer months when they can grow with the help of the abundant sunlight.

And then there are plants that grow smoothly and well during the winter months because they find the cold weather much more enjoyable.

A greenhouse is an ideal tool to keep the temperature of the cultivation environment as stable as possible during both the warm summer months and the colder winter months.

Avoiding temperature fluctuations is important

Plants that are exposed to abrupt temperature fluctuations do not grow well and are not 100% healthy.

Such plants run the risk of losing their nutrients and may experience slowed growth or even dwarfism.

Beware: Some plants such as tomato plants stop growing once they have had too much heat.

With a glass greenhouse, you create a controlled environment in which your vegetables, fruit, plants and herbs can not only grow but actually thrive under optimal conditions.

You can even add specific features to your greenhouse such as automatic ventilation systems to keep the growing conditions exactly the way your plants like it (or yourself if you use the greenhouse as a veranda).

Tip: Find out more about our integrated top and bottom windows as well as our automatic greenhouse vent openers below!

Do not underestimate the importance of ventilation and temperature control in a greenhouse.

It is really essential for growing certain types of crops, flowers, plants and herbs.

Growing tomatoes in a greenhouse: Example

Growing tomatoes in a greenhouse is highly recommended as it allows them to survive any type of weather.

By growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, they can ripen more easily and there is less risk of diseases.

This also helps them to stay healthy during humid and/or cold weather with lots of rainfall.

The result is fresh, juicy and deliciously sweet tomatoes for preparing fresh dishes.

Fact: Even with heavy rainfall, you don’t have to worry about your plants and crops drowning.

The sheltered conditions in the greenhouse ensure that you can keep everything dry inside.

A greenhouse is therefore really the ultimate dream if you wish to grow vegetables and fruits during the rainy season or during a summer characterised by heavy rainfall.

Sufficient ventilation during the summer months

During the summer months you should provide sufficient roof ventilation in your classic greenhouse.

The purpose of roof ventilation is to allow the warm air (which rises) to escape from the greenhouse while using the bottom windows to bring in cooler air.

Roof ventilation is included by default in our greenhouses

Our wrought-iron greenhouses are fitted with windows at the bottom and top of the roof by default.

This means that each top window is positioned opposite a bottom window (see illustrations).

Fact: Our automatic greenhouse vent openers can facilitate ventilation through these windows:

Automatic greenhouse vent openers to optimise ventilation

It is important to aim for the right (not too warm) temperature in the greenhouse.

In this regard, we can offer robust automatic window openers that can perfectly handle our heavier wrought-iron windows with glass.

These are mechanical window openers that can be set and controlled manually.

The oil expands when a certain temperature is reached inside the greenhouse and then pushes the piston of the window opener outwards, which opens the ventilation window.

Conversely, the oil volume will decrease when the temperature drops, causing the cylinder rod to retract and the ventilation window to close again.

Thanks to our robust, automatic window openers, you can thus keep the temperature in the greenhouse as constant as possible. And this benefits the growth process of the plants and vegetables.

Advantages of our automatic greenhouse window openers

  • You do not need electricity for this (the window openers work mechanically, not electrically).
  • These window openers are easy to install.
  • The ventilation system based on the temperature inside the greenhouse can easily be adjusted manually.
  • These window openers operate automatically, which means the windows of your greenhouse open and close fully automatically based on the temperature inside the greenhouse (so you no longer have to worry when you are away from home).
  • The system works in both ways, meaning that the ventilation windows also close automatically as soon as the temperature inside the greenhouse drops below a certain level.
  • Robust ventilation system with a long service life (durable and high-quality material).
  • Our automatic greenhouse vent openers are also interesting for greenhouses in warmer regions and for a greenhouse that you install in the garden of your second home in a sunny country.
  • These automatic air vents are designed to regulate not only the temperature but also the humidity through additional ventilation (allowing you to grow vegetables in optimal conditions).
  • The automatic vent openers allow warm air to escape through the upper ventilation windows while allowing some fresh air to enter through the lower windows. This also provides a gentle breeze that promotes good air circulation in the greenhouse.

Fact

Once a greenhouse window is automated, it can no longer be opened or closed manually because everything is automated.

So you have to make a choice:

  • Either you automate the windows without being able to open or close them manually.
  • Or you do not automate the windows and then you are still able to open and close them yourself (without the advantages of automation).
