Project Description
This rounded lean-to conservatory in wrought iron and glass was custom-built in Gavere as a professional plant showroom.
Built against the side facade of a white brick house, the structure forms a light, elegant space that invites visitors to see plants at their very best.
The most striking feature is the curved arched roof in black wrought iron, which gives the conservatory a unique architectural character.
A combination of slender wrought iron profiles, clear glass and a brick terrace creates a timeless look that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Tip: This rounded lean-to conservatory is also available as a DIY self-build kit, delivered to your door for self-assembly. More on this further below.
A lean-to conservatory with rounded roof as an architectural eye-catcher
The rounded roof form is what immediately sets this conservatory apart from a conventional lean-to model.
From the outside, the arch stands out boldly against the facade. The conservatory meets the side wall and the ground in straight lines, after which the roof profile sweeps forward in a smooth quarter-circle arc.
From the inside, the curved wrought iron rafters create a rhythmic pattern that draws the eye outward. Daylight enters from all sides and ensures an abundance of natural light at every moment of the day.
This roof structure demands a high degree of craftsmanship: each profile was individually curved and precisely fitted to achieve the perfect arch.
Designed as a plant showroom
This rounded lean-to conservatory was specifically designed as a display space for plants — a context that places particular demands on light, climate control and presentation.
The maximum transparency of the glazing ensures that plants receive optimal light and can show themselves at their best to visitors.
The neutral, dark colour of the wrought iron provides an elegant backdrop that draws all attention to the plants and greenery.
At the same time, this configuration is equally well suited to other professional or private uses:
- as a versatile veranda for additional living space
- as a garden room for plants in the ground
- as a covered terrace or sunroom
Natural ventilation from bottom to top
To keep the indoor climate under control, the conservatory was fitted with low ventilation windows at knee height, paired with the same number of ventilation windows at the ridge near the facade junction.
These windows allow warm air to be discharged in a controlled manner through natural ventilation, without compromising the sleek appearance of the structure.
They can optionally be fitted with automatic vent openers that respond to temperature changes and open and close entirely on their own, without electricity.
This keeps the indoor climate stable and comfortable, even on warm summer days, without any need for manual intervention.
The chimney pass-through: a functional detail with character
A notable element in this project is the chimney pass-through, executed as a circular opening in a black wrought iron panel that is integrated into the facade wall of the conservatory.
This detail is first and foremost functional: it allows a chimney or flue to pass through the structure without compromising the structural integrity or the aesthetics of the conservatory.
At the same time, it has something unmistakably decorative about it. The perfect circle in the crisp rectangular panel creates a visual contrast that catches the eye and gives the structure that extra touch of character.
Technical necessity and artisan craftsmanship always go hand in hand at DBG Classics.
Wrought iron and glass: timeless materials for a lasting investment
As with all DBG Classics projects, this rounded lean-to conservatory was entirely crafted in wrought iron and glass.
Wrought iron is strong, corrosion-resistant and gains character as it ages. The dark matt black finish gives the structure a sleek, contemporary look that pairs perfectly with the white brick facade of the house.
The brick paving inside connects with the surrounding terrace and reinforces the unity of garden and architecture.
The result is a structure that will look just as good in twenty years’ time as it does on the day of installation.
