Project Description
This vintage greenhouse was delivered to our customer as a DIY kit.
This wrought iron greenhouse was built at the back of the garden, as an extension against a wall.
Inside the greenhouse everything was tiled with a beautiful retro floor.
This enables this greenhouse to serve as a veranda and as a greenhouse for potted plants.
Buying a vintage greenhouse: Introduction
Numerous gardening enthusiasts take great pleasure in owning a classic greenhouse in their garden.
After all, one can fully enjoy the warmth there, the smell of the earth, the vegetables and fruits, the feeling of spring, the taste of summer and the protection from an inclement autumn wind and heavy rain.
A garden greenhouse offers countless opportunities to plant, grow and harvest your own tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots and basil.
You can also grow tasty varieties of onions in it (in the ground or in pots).
Extended growing and cultivation season thanks to a greenhouse
This traditional greenhouse makes it possible to significantly extend the growing and cultivation season.
It provides the opportunity to enjoy the sun’s rays and feel connected to nature. And all this while you are not bothered by rain and/or wind.
Such a greenhouse is rarely, if ever, purchased with the intention of making money from the vegetables and fruits grown.
Rather, it is a lifestyle and hobby investment, and the fruits and vegetables harvested are a healthy, fresh bonus!
Interesting in terms of atmosphere and tranquillity
As the owner of a retro greenhouse, you can create a fantastic oasis of calm with all kinds of scents and various types of greenery.
A few well-chosen plants are already enough to create the right atmosphere while still leaving enough space for an inviting seating area.
The customer of this project has floored the entire greenhouse with a beautiful, classic tile.
This flat and tiled surface makes it easier to create a comfortable seating area in the greenhouse.
There are countless ways and techniques to create lush green happiness in a garden greenhouse.
These include beautiful geraniums, vines, early snowdrops, sun-ripened tomatoes, cabbages, flowers, herbs, and so on.
Fact: However you want to enjoy a greenhouse, it doesn’t have to be extremely expensive or cumbersome.
For example, you can easily get started with a DIY kit from us.
A do-it-yourself package will reduce your costs and at the same time allows you to enjoy the construction if you like to roll up your sleeves yourself.
Gardening with a greenhouse: Some advantages
The vintage greenhouse of this project provides an attractive environment that is warmer and brighter than found in our homes and gardens.
The greenhouse effect gives the plants more time to grow and offers the owner more possibilities.
You can grow more fruits and vegetables on an annual basis since the growing season is extended by the sheltered environment.
Of course, a greenhouse requires a little more attention!
You need to pay more attention to the soil, watering, providing adequate nutrition and fertilizer, and controlling pests.
This aspect of gardening in a greenhouse may be tedious but it is crucial nonetheless.
Moreover, you will get a lot of satisfaction out of it, especially if you can harvest fresh, home-grown fruits and vegetables!
With the right vision and dedication, you can transform your greenhouse into a beautiful, lush and thriving oasis, the crown jewel of your garden.
How to select a vintage greenhouse?
A classic greenhouse is a fantastic asset if you like gardening.
Moreover, the retro-style wall greenhouse of this project offers many possibilities!
You can decorate such a garden greenhouse and use it as you wish.
For example, you can turn it into a cosy retreat, a quiet corner to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and read a book or newspaper.
Or you can turn it into a real greenhouse to extend the growing season for fruits and vegetables.
Note: It is often not possible to use one garden greenhouse for all possible multifunctional uses available.
If the greenhouse is large enough, however, there is usually enough room for both lush greenery and a comfortable lounge area.
Determine your goals before you buy
Before investing in a wrought iron and glass greenhouse, you must decide how you want to use it.
This probably is the most difficult part of selecting an attached greenhouse in wrought iron and glass.
If your priority is to have a comfortable veranda and sunroom in your garden, you should plan accordingly.
On the other hand, is your aim to actively garden under glass and increase your production of fruit and vegetables?
Then you should make sure that your fruit and vegetables are given all the space they need.
Of course, you can change the layout from year to year if your needs or preferences change.
Multifunctional greenhouse that also serves as a veranda
If you want both a comfortable seating area for your coffee break and at the same time want to grow tomatoes under glass, you will have to make a compromise.
An orangery in traditional style always comes with a limited surface area and capacity. This calls for proper planning!
Feel free to contact us to learn more about our approach, the framework, the wrought-iron profiles, the wall, the foundation, and so on.
You should also think about sufficient ventilation and irrigation if you wish to actively garden.
And if you want to use the greenhouse as a veranda, you will also need to pay attention to the right tiling and interior design.
Do you need lighting and water supply? Do you need electricity to play music, to cool a fridge, to make fresh coffee? And do you want a workbench in a classic style?
These are all things you need to think about when you’re preparing to buy a greenhouse.
