Project Description
This curved glass and wrought-iron greenhouse serves as a nursery for fresh fruit and vegetables.
It was built against an existing dividing wall in the garden and its wrought-iron roof profiles rest on a dwarf wall that was painted black, which in turn rests on an ornate wall of black slate.
This conservatory has a considerable length and offers enough space to store gardening equipment and tools as well.
Harvesting fresh fruit and vegetables as a reward
A conservatory is, in practice, an imitation of Mother Nature.
It is important to take good care of plants, vegetables and fruits to ensure a nice harvest.
Thus, you should pay sufficient attention to the right amounts of water, heat, light and nutrients to stimulate plant growth.
Interesting fact: Using our ventilation shutters and automatic window openers, you can adjust and regulate your conservatory so that you can achieve an optimal harvest.
Four key concerns: Curved glass greenhouse
Growing your own vegetables, fruits and plants in a curved glass greenhouse is very satisfying.
But to bring in a nice harvest, you need to pay adequate attention to four crucial components, being heat, water, nutrients and light.
These four pillars of a conservatory are interconnected and it is important that there is a harmonious interplay between them to ensure a beautiful harvest.
Warmth in the greenhouse
It is vital to keep a close eye on the temperature in your extension greenhouse.
Thanks to the ventilation hatches at the bottom and top of the curved roof, and the door in the side, you can ensure sufficient cooling and a nice breeze.
In the photos, you can see that each ventilation hatch is equipped with an automatic greenhouse window opener.
This allows you to automate temperature control in the conservatory as the ventilation windows close and open automatically.
During the winter months, it makes no sense for most conservatory owners to heat the conservatory.
The advantage of this black lean-to greenhouse is that the wall against which it is built stores heat from the sun during the day and then radiates it back inside the conservatory when the sun has already set for the night.
Water and humidity in the curved greenhouse
Water is important for plants, vegetables and fruits because, among other things, it transports certain nutrients to the underground roots of the vegetables, plants and so on.
Water is also crucial to support the growth phase of plants.
In addition, water is also important for the flowering phase (water is needed to grow beautiful fruits, for example).
Interesting fact: Inside the glass garden room with wrought iron profiles, there should always be a sufficiently high humidity level to create ideal growing conditions.
You can keep the air in the greenhouse moist by misting water (either manually or using an automatic misting system).
Watering system could be a good idea
Depending on your needs and goals, you may decide to install an automatic watering system.
You then no longer need to water all vegetables, fruits and plants manually.
So this saves time and at the same time, it is the perfect method for giving the right amount of water.
Are you away from home for a day? Then watering will still be automatic which will not threaten your harvest.
You can set most watering systems based on a timer, which you can adjust according to the specific situation.
Plant nutrients
Nutrients are essential for the growth of your vegetables, plants and fruits.
Put another way, if you want a nice harvest of beautiful fruits and vegetables, you will have to feed your plants. Preferably work with natural nutrients such as compost.
And did you know that the hydroponic system is a convenient plant nutrition system that facilitates very good control?
It is a system where the plant roots are suspended in a nutrient-rich solution (i.e. the roots are not in the soil).
Plants can even grow on a wall in a properly designed greenhouse if you continuously supply its roots with nutrients.
Natural light
Natural light is abundant in glass and wrought-iron conservatories. This natural light is also free thanks to nature and the sun.
During summer, be careful with direct exposure to sunlight. Plants can easily burn under glass during this period.
One of the photos of this project shows how part of the roof was covered inside with a translucent cloth to block direct sunlight.
